The Southampton Town Democratic Committee proudly announces its endorsement of Chris Gallant for Congress in New York’s First Congressional District.

At a Southampton Town Democratic Committee meeting held this evening, Committee members overwhelmingly voted to endorse Gallant in the Democratic primary election on June 23, 2026.

“Chris Gallant is exactly the kind of leader we need representing Long Island in Congress,” said Southampton Town Democratic Committee Chair Gordon Herr. “Chris has dedicated his life to public service – as a military helicopter pilot, volunteer firefighter, union leader, and advocate for working families. He understands the challenges facing Suffolk County residents and will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare, lower costs for families, strengthen infrastructure, defend reproductive freedom, and protect Long Island’s environment and coastline.”

Gallant’s campaign has built growing momentum across NY-01, drawing support from Democratic leaders, labor advocates, veterans, and community members who believe the district deserves strong, accountable representation focused on the needs of everyday people rather than divisive partisan politics.

Among Gallant’s top priorities are:

  • Making Long Island more affordable for working and middle-class families;

  • Protecting and strengthening Medicare and Medicaid for seniors;

  • Investing in infrastructure and coastal resilience to defend shoreline communities;

  • Supporting first responders and public safety initiatives; and

  • Restoring accountability and effectiveness in government.

The Southampton Town Democratic Committee cited Gallant’s record of public service, his commitment to democratic values, and his focus on affordability, healthcare, veterans, infrastructure, and environmental protection as key reasons for the endorsement.

Gallant said: “Too many young people are being forced to leave Southampton and Long Island because they can no longer afford to build a future here. When teachers, first responders, tradespeople, and young families are priced out of the communities they grew up in, we lose the people who keep our towns strong. We need to make Long Island more affordable by expanding housing opportunities, investing in infrastructure, and building an economy where the next generation can stay, work, and thrive right here at home. In Washington, I will fight to create those opportunities and help build a stronger future for Long Island families.”

“NY-01 is one of the most important congressional races in the country,” Herr added. “We believe Chris Gallant is the strongest candidate to unite Democrats, energize voters, and defeat Congressman Nick LaLota this November. Congressman LaLota has consistently supported a partisan agenda that too often ignores the needs of Suffolk County residents while enabling growing threats to democratic institutions and the rule of law.”
